The Youthful John Milton

The youthful Milton was so delicate in appearance that he was known as "the Lady of Christ's College," which confirms that boys might plausibly play feminine roles in Shakespeare. However, he does not seem to have acted in plays.

Original painting in National Portrait Gallery, London.
